Project Overview

A new entrance, gathering space and meditation garden were added to this historic church in San Francisco. The terrace is a place of outreach, welcome and refuge, serving as the day to day entrance for visitors to the church. Social gatherings and ceremonies on the terrace and in the garden occur throughout the year and occasionally include the interment of ashes beneath the terrace stones. A custom designed fence and gate provides a beautiful but secure edge. The design sought to complement the architecture of the 100 year old building and yet be a contemporary statement of the parish's community.
